Looking after the beck for wildlife and the community
If it was not for the beck, Silsden would probably not exist! From medieval times a village has been on the beck, drawing power from the water for corn milling and later textiles. Although no longer a source of power the beck is still a focal point for the town. Likewise an abundance of wildlife depends on the river, a whole ecosystem is formed around it. Friends of Silsden Beck (FoSB) is a volunteer group working to advance the conservation, protection, restoration and improvement of the beck and its environs for the benefit of wildlife and the community.
