There are many ways in which you can help the beck to meet the many challenges it faces:

We are active in and around the beck throughout the year, the main tasks being litter and debris removal and Himalayan balsam removal. Follow us on Facebook to find out about upcoming events or Contact us.

Report issues.

The Environment agency depends on the public as it’s eyes and ears. If you see anything untoward happening in or around the beck report it on the EA incident helpline 0800 807060. It’s useful to be able to give a grid reference for the location, for this you can use the Gridreferencefinder. If possible, before reporting, get some pictures and also try to establish where the pollution is entering the beck, the more information you can give the EA the better. By untoward we mean a suspicious discharge into the beck perhaps or dead fish in the water. We would also be interested in any reports so let us know via our Contact us page or Facebook page

Check your property for misconnections.

We have already mentioned that misconnections, grey water directed to a surface water drain, are a main cause of pollution in the beck. So we would urge everyone to check their drainage pipework. Connectright.org.uk can help you to check your system is connected correctly, it can also help you to find a WaterSafe accredited plumber to help with alterations.

Help with monitoring the beck.

For some years we have been monitoring the bug-life in the beck as it helps us understand the water quality. Currently we sample near the Aldi supermarket and below the Belton Road junction, we would like to extend this and are looking for sampling volunteers. The Aire Rivers Trust would provide full training as part of their Citizen Science Project, no prior specialist knowledge is required.
